What do you get when you mix an incredible motorsport heritage and one of the most impressive machines of all time? The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘55 1 of 1’ pays homage to the legendary Bugatti Type 55 Super Sport, of which there were only 38 ever made. The result is not only a visually stunning car but one that celebrates the genius of Jean Bugatti, son of the founder, Ettore.

Blending the Past and the Present

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘55 1 of 1’ The Sur Mesure team at Bugatti has seamlessly integrated Bugatti’s heritage into a modern design. Using Bugatti’s signature two-tone design, introduced by Jean Bugatti on the Type 55, and Ettore Bugatti’s favorite color combination, yellow and black, they have crafted a unique, ultra-aggressive one-off masterpiece. The black line in the center of the bonnet and the black line around the grille are nods to the rare classic, as is the yellow line that flows around the rear of the car.

Customized to the Extremes

The hand-applied ‘55’ pattern forms a gradient from the black line on the doors. It initially appears to be just a fade into the striking yellow, but on closer inspection, is cleverly crafted from the number 55. The use of the number 55 doesn’t stop there, though. The underside of the rear wing features ‘55 1 of 1’ to further show the individualization and inspiration behind the special Chiron Super Sport. The homage continues inside, with yellow stitching and embroidered headrests featuring a ‘55 1 of 1’ inscription. The fading ‘55’ pattern features on the inside of the door, too. Finally, Jean Bugatti’s signature is featured on the door sill and on a dedication plate.

A Fitting Tribute

The first Super Sport from the French brand, it redefined grand touring and blended speed and comfort. Designed by Jean Bugatti, it was derived from the Type 51 race car. The most revered Type 55 is the inspiration behind the custom Chiron and is owned by the Musée National de l’Automobile in Mulhouse, which has a collection of 600 cars, of which more than 100 are Bugattis. The Type 55 Super Sport has a 2.3-liter straight-eight engine from the Type 51 and a top speed of 112mph, which is mighty impressive considering production of the classic Bugatti began over 90 years ago.
